✩Amber Mythology, Legends, Lore and History✩
The Amber I have used is Baltic Amber. Amber is fossilised tree sap which is is around 35 to 50 million years old. Amber has been found at Neolithic sites far from its source on the shores of the Baltic sea, indicating long-distance trade routes established before the Bronze Age. Amber jewellery found in graves from Mycenaean Greece has been found to originate from the Baltic Sea.
Goddess Jūratė (described as a mermaid) lived under the Baltic Sea in a beautiful Amber castle. She ruled the sea and all of the sea-life. A young fisherman named Kastytis was disturbing the peace as he was catching a lot of fish. Jūratė decided to punish him and restore the peace, but she fell in love with the handsome young fisherman. They spent some happy times in the castle, but Perkūnas, the thunder-god, found out that the immortal goddess had fallen in love with a mortal man. He became furious and struck the amber castle. It exploded into millions of pieces. According to legend, that is why pieces of amber come ashore after a storm on the Baltic Sea.

✩Bee Mythology, Legends, Lore and History✩
*Since ancient times, bees - especially honey bees, have been seen to symbolise industry, to bring messages from the Divine, to set an example, to be associated with the soul, and to bring the blessing of fertility.
*Beyla is the Norse goddess of bees. It’s difficult to know why she is thought of as goddess of bees, other than her name, since she appears in literature and mythology just once – in the poem ‘Lokasenna’. However, she seems to have been a servant of Freyr.
*Mellona (or Mellonia) was an ancient Roman goddess of bees and beekeeping, who was said to promote and maintain the supply and sweetness of honey. Her name comes from mel – the Latin for honey.
*Melissa is a goddess of bees and honey from ancient Greece. She was said to be a nymph. In her story she was shown the care of bees and use of honey, and, as one of the nurse servants of Zeus, who fed him honey.

Jewellery: Materials

I use a variety of metals in my jewellery designs and will always give a detailed description on each item. Here is an an over view of some the the metals I use:

  • Pure Silver, also known as Fine Silver, 99.99% Silver with an allowance for trace elements
  •  925 Sterling Silver, 92.5% pure Silver + 7.5% other metals, usually copper
  • Silver Plated, 925 Sterling Silver plated/coated onto a base metal core, which can be brass, copper, pewter, iron, zinc alloys, tin, alloys
  • 9ct Gold Plated on to 925 Sterling Silver core, also know as Gold Vermeil. I use 9ct Yellow Gold and 9ct Rose Gold Vermeil in some of my designs and also offer optional replacement ear-wires
  • Titanium and Niobium optional replacement ear-wires, which are extremely low-allergenic pure medical grade metals
  • Tibetan Silver refers to a variety of white non-precious metal alloys used primarily in cast jewellery components, with an appearance similar to aged silver. 'Tibetan Silver' includes copper-tin alloys; zinc alloys; and other alloy compositions, as well as base metals with a Silver plating. It is also known as Nepalese silver, white metal, lead-free pewter or tin alloy. For more detailed information please read my blog article: What is Tibetan Silver
  • I also offer a range of other metals such as Bronze, pure Copper, pure Aluminium, Stainless Steel and lead free Pewter in either solid or plated varieties.

Jewellery: Care Instructions

Jewellery should be the last thing you put on the first thing you take off.
Always avoid getting hair products, perfume or chemicals (chemicals can include household cleaning products, some foods such as Lemons or vinegar)
General Advice:
Any metal be-it Sterling Silver, base metals or plated alloys can become dull or tarnished. As a general rule don't get it wet, if you do, dry and polish with a soft cloth. If it goes dull or tarnished, a gentle polish with a non-abrasive Silver cloth will bring it's lustre back. Gems or beads can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth to restore their original lustre.
Certain precious or semi-precious stone may require special care, I will include the information in the items full description or care leaflet.
