*You will get exactly the necklace as shown. This combination of colouration of Owl beads (I only have 4 beads in this colour), the unique banding on the Blue Lace Agate bead and the hand dyed/painting on the Habotai Silk ribbon means that this necklace is unique and one-of-a-kind*

Especially made for “Top Down” knitters, but can equally be worn simply as a charm style necklace with the ability to add or take away new beads/charms. Made for 7mm or smaller needles.

Blue Lace Agate bead and pressed glass Owls on hand dyed/painted Habotai Silk ribbon, with silver plated metals. The round bead is the natural gemstone Blue Lace Agate and the pale blue Owls are high quality Czech Opalite glass (also known as Bohemian glass) pressed/moulded beads with a patina coating.

✩Size (all measurements are approximate)✩

Overall pendant length- 54mm,
Blue Lace Agate bead- 10mm,
Owls- 14x6mm,
Silk Ribbon- once knotted gives a long necklace length of 32 inches (80cm), which can be easily slipped over the head or knotted shorter to create a choker style necklace or anything in between.

✩What is “Top Down Knitting”? ✩

Top down knitting is the modern method of knitting in one piece from the top down, rather than creating separate panels and sewing together.

I confess to being a lapsed knitter, it has been many years since I knitted a jumper. I have never tried “Top Down” knitting. The reason why I initially made these stitch markers necklaces was because of a custom request from a friend as a gift for a knitter. Also inspired by the William Morris quote “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, I’m happy that this necklace covers both those requirements.

These stitch markers are designed to be used over the needles and not clipped on to the wool, hence their closed loops.

✩Care of the Silk ribbon ✩

If necessary the ribbon should be washed by hand in cold/lukewarm water and mild silk detergent solution, then smoothed with your fingers and allow to air dry. Should the ribbon need ironing it can be carefully ironed by laying a piece of thin cotton over the top of the ribbon, on "silk" setting.

✩ Blue Lace Agate Mythology, Legends, Lore and History✩

*As the name suggests, this variety is reminiscent of beautiful lace with elaborate loops and cloud like swirls. It is among the rarest and most highly coveted forms of Agate. You can find Lace Agate in many colours, with red and blue being the rarest. One of the most beautiful angelic Agates, prized for its beautiful summer sky blue striated lacy appearance. Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, which is a micro-crystalline form of Quartz.
*Natural Birthstone: With their beautiful light blue colour, these stones are some of the natural birthstones of those born while the world awaits the spring equinox (February 19 - March 19). This is a time when new life is about to burst forth, a time of faith and trust. Blue crystals bring you patience and respect.
*Zodiac Stone: Agate is one of the zodiac stones for those born under the sign Gemini, between May 21 and June 20.

✩Owl Mythology, Legends, Lore and History✩

*In Greek mythology, a little owl (Athene noctua) traditionally represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, or Minerva (her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology).
In Ancient Greek mythology the Owl was a creature sacred to Athena, Goddess of the night who represented wisdom. Athena also the Greek Goddess of Wisdom had a companion Owl on her shoulder, which revealed unseen truths to her. Owl had the ability to light up Athena's blind side, enabling her to speak the whole truth, as opposed to only a half truth.
*The Ainu in Japan trust the Owl because it gives them notice of evil approaching. They revere the Owl, and believe it mediates between the Gods and men.
*The bird features prominently Celtic folklore where it is considered both to be sacred and to have magical powers, again because of its abilities in the dark.

✩The hand photo✩

Meet Mephisto the measuring hand, he will help show you the rough scale of the jewellery. The hand is exactly the same size as my own hand (I’m an average UK ladies size 7 glove).

It is also known as Nepalese silver, white metal, lead-free pewter or tin alloy. For more detailed information please read my blog article: What is Tibetan Silver

Jewellery: Care Instructions

Jewellery should be the last thing you put on the first thing you take off.
Always avoid getting hair products, perfume or chemicals (chemicals can include household cleaning products, some foods such as Lemons or vinegar)
General Advice:
Any metal be-it Sterling Silver, base metals or plated alloys can become dull or tarnished. As a general rule don't get it wet, if you do, dry and polish with a soft cloth. If it goes dull or tarnished, a gentle polish with a non-abrasive Silver cloth will bring it's lustre back. Gems or beads can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth to restore their original lustre.
Certain precious or semi-precious stone may require special care, I will include the information in the items full description or care leaflet.
